They say boats for sale in the Philippines are money pits. Yacht, motor boat, catamaran—whatever type of boat you buy, skeptics believe it’s not worth it. But are boats really that bad of an investment?

It’s true you shell out a considerable amount of money for the initial purchase of a boat. Maintenance is also a serious matter as marina slip, fuel, service, and repair cost can be very expensive. In fact, the initial cost can be the cheapest you’ll pay, given the total expenses you’ll incur out of maintaining a boat.

Purchasing a boat just to resell it afterwards is not also ideal. The value won’t be worth it considering the expenses you paid to keep it in good shape thru the years, especially if you don’t get to use it very often. Basically, if you’re investing on a boat and expecting to get rewarded financially, be ready for a huge disappointment.

However, these aren’t all you’ll get when investing on a boat, either. Purchasing a boat may not be the smartest move financially, but the payoff can be huge mentally.

Boating is a proven way to enjoy life, relax, and relieve stress while exploring rich waters such as that of the Philippines. It is a luxury that lets you escape the hustle and bustle of the city and spend quality time with your friends, love ones, and family. Whether you let adrenaline rush takes you over on your for sale motor boat or try to catch dinner with your kids on your fishing boat, boating can be the best recreation you can experience in life.

More importantly, owning a boat, cruising, and spending recreation time can make us feel younger. It can open up new perspective in life that we don’t get to see on land, and this can be the best reward you’ll get when you invest on a boat.

So are for sale motor boats, yachts, catamarans or any kind of water vessel really a terrible investments? Yes, if financial investment is your only reason for buying one. No, if you only wish to relax, enjoy, and explore around the Philippines on a leisurely cruise. Bottom line: whether boats are worth or not worth it, this all depends on how you intend to use it.
