Going on a cruise around the Philippines aboard a catamaran for sale for the first time? We know you’re excited, but before anything else, take note of the following tips to ensure an incident-free voyage when you’re out at sea. First timer or not, every passenger should observe safety measures during a sea trip, always.

  • Develop a float plan. Be sure to inform a reliable person about your float plan. A float plan may include the name, address, and phone number of trip leader. It may also include the trip itinerary, the name & number of all passengers, and the type of boat you are on.

  • Don’t forget life jackets. According to U.S. Coast Guard reports in 2010, 88% of boating death victims weren’t wearing life jackets during the incident. Don’t be part of the statistics and make sure you and everyone in the family are wearing life jackets.

  • Familiarize yourself with emergency & evacuation plans. Make sure your operator explains emergency plans in case incident happens during the voyage. Do your part and ask important questions such as the location of buoyancy aids, life jackets, first aid kits and other safety equipment onboard.

  • Know the weather. It is the responsibility of the boat operator to inform his passenger about weather forecast and sea reports. It wouldn’t hurt if you also do research before heading out to sea.

  • Refrain from drinking alcohol. The same report from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention states that one in five boating deaths in U.S. is influenced by alcohol use. It’s best to avoid alcohol while aboard a catamaran for sale as drunk passengers may have problems with balance, coordination, and judgment especially when exposed to wind and hot weather condition such as in the Philippines.

  • Take swimming lessons. Being around water, knowing how to swim is a basic skill one must have during sea trips. Research also shows that taking swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning among children 1 to 4 years of age, so better learn this survival skill first before your first voyage.

Enjoying the trip and appreciating the natural wonders of the Philippines are a priority, but safety shouldn’t come last when riding a catamaran for sale. So bear in mind the tips above and have a safe & fun trip on your first boat ride!
